How California Tableware is Crafted
-
Each and every Logan-Immordino California Tableware piece is individually hand-crafted by Peter Immordino on his wheel in our Studio located along the Russian River in the heart of the Sonoma Country wine country. Using a California produced porcelain-like clay, Peter uses his personally crafted plaster molds or just his hands and talents to craft beautiful pieces on the wheel. Peter designs each piece to be:
- Functional
- Aesthetically pleasing
- Abundant in size
- Colorful
- Durable
| OUR STUDIO MOTTO
Hand-crafted in America by Italian Americans!
Why? Because it is true! |
| | | |
The process for each piece begins with slab-rolling to ensure consistent thickness. |

Next, the clay is cut to the size required, |

then draped over a plaster mold, insuring our uniformity of size. Once on the mold, the clay is hand-formed using a potter's wheel. |
Peter’s fingers cause the beautiful swirl patterns
as the piece forms on the wheel; Peter trims the clay to the
proper size.
Next, the distinctive foot is thrown using an extruded coil.
At this stage the tableware is oversized by about 20% due to the shrinkage that will occur as porcelain clay dries. About three days later, after the pieces become "leather haed" on the molds, they are trimmed and the rims are rounded for a finished, smooth appearance. The pieces are stacked into a bisque kiln to be fired for about 12 hours at 2000 degrees Fahrenheit.

Peter hand paints each piece using the palette
of colors he and Tracy created to be mutually interactive
and complementary, consistent and beautiful. Attention to
detail and consistency with color is equal to the detail and
consistency with shape, size and design. Each piece is
treated to a clear glaze spray after being decorated which
will give it remarkable durability, shine and glow.

After the second trip through the kiln, the piece has become
an outstanding, individually hand-crafted part of
Logan-Immordino California Tableware.
